Marcrame Project of the Month

Macrame Easter Basket

Heres one of our old time favorite patterns:

Materials:
  - 47 Yards 6MM Bonnie Braid
  - 9” Brass Ring
  - 7” Brass Ring
  - 16 Beads 32 x 22 mm Oval
  - One 18” piece of 18 gauge wire for handle

Handle:
Cut 2 cords 2 yards long and 2 cords 3 ¾ yds long.  Measure 24” from one end of the shorter cords and pin cords side by side on the macramé board.  Pin one longer cord on each side of the shorter cords, also 24” from the ends.  Tie an 18” sinnet of either Half Knots (HK) or Square Knots (SK), inserting wire to be used with filler cords after tying first couple of knots.

Double Half Hitch (DHH) 4 of the cords from the handle onto the 9” ring.  DHH the remaining 4 handle cords directly opposite on the 9” ring.

Basket:
Cut 28 cords 1 ¼ yds. Each.  Mount the cords on the 9” ring using 14 cords between each group of handle cords, using a Reverse Larks Head (RevLH) plus a Half Hitch (HH) with each cord.

1. Starting with 4 handle cords, tie a row of SK around the basket directly under the ring. Alternate cords and tie a second row of SK around the basket.

2. Alternate cords and place a bead on each group of 2 filler cords. Tie a row of Alternating Square Knots (ASK) around the basket between each bead.  Alternate cords and tie a second row of SK around the basket.

3. DHH all cords onto the 7” ring.  TURN BASKET INSIDE OUT. Cut 1 cord 1yd. long.  Gather all cords together and tie a wrap knot using the 1 yd. cord.  Trim cord ends to 5” or 6”. Unbraid and brush out cord ends.  TURN BASKET RIGHT SIDE OUT. Settle “Fluff” into basket with
your fingers.  Add Bow to handle if desired.
